🐈‍⬛ Our first Project DCT campaign — The Good Luck Flight

Black cats get a bad rap — plain and simple. But one little witch has decided to turn the narrative on its tail by embarking on a Good Luck tour around the world with a cat companion in tow. Here's how to support little Gretchen on her epic flight:

DATES

1. Submit a photo of a cat you love for consideration as little Gretchen's travel companion (Sept 1-13)
2. Vote for the winning cat companion (Sept 14-20; $1 donation)
3. Support her flight to get her around the world (Sept 21 - Oct 11; $5 / $10 /$20 tiers with supporter perqs + a separate tier structure for businesses that want in on the action & promotion)
4. Catnip — we'll offer a few extra activities while the storybook chronicling the flight gets published (October 11-30)
5. Be part of the story — we're creating a storybook for the campaign, complete with the name of the cat companion and opportunities to see your name printed in the acknowledgments. We'll celebrate the book launch at Day #1 of our Book Bash on Saturday November 7

ABOUT BLACK CATS: The prevalence of the 'black cats are bad luck' myth creates very real, unintended consequences for black cats:

• Adoption Restrictions: Due to misplaced fears, some well-intentioned individuals and even certain shelters implement temporary bans or restrictions on adopting out black cats during October. 

• Extended Shelter Stays: Black cats already face black-cat bias (or black dog syndrome), meaning they frequently take longer to get adopted than cats with lighter or more patterned coats because they are harder to photograph well and are tied to lingering superstitions. Placing barriers on their adoption only increases the length of time they spend in shelters.

Your participation in this kooky critter campaign elevates the status of our feline friends and enables us to offer free youth enrichment classes, publish authors at no charge, and grant scholarships.
